the Zen series
monotype collage | works on paper
The inspiration behind this series came to me as a culmination of travels
to Bali and Tokyo on a combined trip which proved to be a study in contrasts,
both literally and figuratively. The color palette formulated in my mind
and was brought on by the soft and soothing colors of the gentle, peaceful
side of northeastern Bali. The daily offerings left for the gods along
my path each day gave me the idea of small compositions made entirely of
found objects. From Tokyo, the clean lines -- ever-futuristic yet simultaneously
ancient zen-like -- formulas for classic beauty and timelessness.
In these pieces, paint is combined with collaged magazine scraps and gold-leafed
paper.
